Methodology

How our valuations will be calculated

This page is a commitment, not a result. It describes what our methodology will have to cover before any valuation is published.

Clear Flight Policy has not published point valuations yet. Rather than describe a methodology we are not yet running, the list below sets out what the finished methodology will need to explain.

  • Sampled redemptions

A repeatable sample of real award bookings across cabins, routes and dates, rather than a single best-case example.

  • Cash comparison

The cash price of the same itinerary at the time of sampling, so value is measured against a real alternative.

  • Fees and surcharges

Taxes, carrier-imposed surcharges and booking fees deducted, because they are part of what a redemption costs.

  • Availability

How reliably award space can actually be found — a strong rate on an unbookable seat is not worth much.

  • Transferability

Whether the currency can move to other programmes, which affects how much optionality a point carries.

  • Review cadence

A published review schedule and a changelog, so a valuation is never silently stale.
